Description: The prolonged conflict between the Helic Republic and the Empire (be it the Zenebas, Guylos, or Neo-Zenebas Dynasty) was long and bloody, and over the centuries, resulted in the creation of some of the most innovative Zoid upgrades and modifications known to man. For the most part, these inventions in the fine art of war came from within the two combatants: the Helic engineering schools were legendary for their focus on mounting big guns on platforms half their size, whereas the Imperial academies produced minds who asserted that the base Zoid should be designed for a specific function, as opposed to the Helic philosophy of flexibility and adaptivity. However, they always needed modifications. It often wasn't until after the original manufacture of many Zoids that the Helic boys got that big gun-mounting just right, and the Imperial engineers quickly realized that absolute, rigid inflexibility led to lost battles.

However, while essentially every Zoid was designed by one faction or another, this was not so with modifications. Welcome to the year ZAC 2101, and enter the third party Zi-Arms corporation (Name ring a bell? They'll become caught up in the Three Tigers construction a while later), a conglomerate of manufacturers based in various independent "colonies". They announced their status as a neutral party in the great war, and sold munitions and manufactured goods to both sides of the conflict. Soon, Zi-Arms entered the modifications market, and concocted what they called the Customizable Parts or "CP" parts line, which was to consist of three of their newly designed modifications. Later on, with the planet under a unified flag, Zi-Arms would be nationalized by the ZBC and their parts line ballooned to more than 20 parts, then declared public domain.

Anyway, the first two modifications in the arsenal of the CP parts line were useful, but not all that impressive. They didn't exactly knock the socks off of the Republican and Imperial officers who in charge of buying such things. The CP parts line was, after all, just the product of corporation, whereas both sides of the conflict had the resources of an entire nation to devote to their respective war efforts. Large portions of those massive budgets went into R&D, to keep them ahead in the fight. Given what the military engineers were pumping out, nobody really gave the CP parts more than a few glances (and, if Zi-Arms was lucky, purchases.) Really, the Flexible Booster Unit was an interesting trinket, but it didn't really seem to win battles, and the Active Shield Unit was interesting but was really just a rip-off of Helic technology. Zi-Arms needed something new. A weapon so powerful that it would trump the Helic Bomber Unit, something like... this.

When building this weapon, Zi-Arms seems to have spontaneously channeled the spirits of the Helic Republic engineers, because they have managed to stuff 13 missiles onto the frames of Zoids half the weight (well, not literally, but suprisingly close to it.) The primary missile rack carries 9 multipurpose missiles, which, like most multipurpose missiles, take 1.5 times the standard time to acquire a lock-on. The secondary and tertiary missile turrets, respectively, each have 2 missiles - one SAM and one AGM. They have standard strengths for missiles of their type, and standard lock-on time. The twist to the Omni-Directional Missile Unit is that the rack and both turrets are omni-directional, and can rotate every which-way to aquire a lock. There's no hiding from a Zoid with this part.

The Zi-Arms corporation underwent a massive increase in sales, revenue, and profit, when this part came out. The Republic and the Empire gobbled them up. Now, Zi-Arms is long since dead now, and the Customizable Parts line is now public domain. The part may be costly, but hey, can one really put a price on 'splodies? This was good enough for the two ancient nations of Zi: it should be good enough for you.
