Damages and Repairs

Introduction: Whenever you participate in any Zoid Battle, it is overwhelmingly likely that you will take damage. This section contains the table which details the prices and times of the various repairs, as well as detailing the damages used by the judge during and after the fight. It also describes the option of self-repair, telling you how to repair your Zoid for free over a longer period of time.

During the Battle: Each judge has his or her own way of expressing damage. During that part of judgement, when the judge is updating the participants on what kinds of abuse their Zoids have taken, veteran combatants may see any number of styles emerge. Armor damage is an almost universal and extremely common form of damage. It's usually expressed by one of the following: none, Light, Moderate, Medium, Heavy, or Stripped, which are listed in ascending order. It is also an extremely common practice to have a second word following the first, indicating where in the damage category the armor damage is. (IE: Moderate-Heavy would be just below Medium-Light.) Other judges change and adapt this system. Another common practice is to merge the Moderate and Medium damage steps. Ask a judge how he or she operates before your battle.

Many judges also tend to talk about or list damages other than armor damage. This includes structural distortion, internal damage, and performance loss. Structural distortion is when a Zoid has been physically warped thanks to excess or heavy fire. This doesn't necessarily come hand-in-hand with armor damage, as a Zoid's armor doesn't lessen blunt-force trauma. Internal damage talks about what wires are fried (thanks to shocking or exposed wiring somewhere on the Zoid). Performance loss can be a side-effect of the other two, or be a result of other damage, such as having a limb blown off. Performance loss reflects sluggishness of clumsiness thanks to various damage. These three categories have no standardized benchmarks, though Performance loss is usually expressed in percents.

At the End of the Battle: At the end of any battle, sanctioned or unsanctioned, the judge will announce the damages that participating Zoids have taken. Normally, this will be expressed in one of the repair costs: Light, Moderate, Heavy, or Rebuild. Light is nothing but a few scratchs: mild armor damage or very mild structural distortion and internal damage. Moderate is a bit deeper, featuring a bit more armor destroyed and mild or standard structural distortion or internal damage. Heavy is large chunks of armor being badly shot up, as well as significant distortion, internal damage, and maybe even performance loss. Rebuild is a total rework of the Zoid, and is the kind of damage you get when you lost a limb and took other damage, or had your armor entirely stripped off of a flank.

Special Damages: There are three special kinds of damage that pilots should be aware of: Hospital Time (injury), Prisoner of War, and Zoid Death. Hospital Time occurs when something happened that caused the pilot himself to become injured. Likely causes include uncontrolled, high-speed collisions and cockpit shots. Though this most usually occurs in unsanctioned battles, it can occur in sanctioned battles as well. The pilot, plain and simply, cannot participate in Zoid Battling while he's in the hospital. Hospital time itself varies with the severity of the injury, but it can usually be as little as a few hours or as much as a week.

Prisoner of War is a kind of special "damage" that results from a pilot sticking around in warfare past his or her limits. When a pilot loses a skirmish and is still on the field of battle, he or she is captured and becomes a Prisoner of War. Usually, some form of extraction is possible, but if your enemy's backup arrives before your own, or if you're taken captive through more direct means, you're a PoW. While you're a Prisoner of War, you cannot participate in Warfare (you can still do Battlemode 0999 battles and fight in sanctioned Zoid Battles). You will eventually be released, either breaking out, being liberated, or through a prisoner exchange. However, that could take a while.

Zoid Death is an extremely rare type of damage, which only occurs when the Zoid Core has been badly damaged or destroyed. Zoid Death is impossible in sanctioned Zoid Battles, and only occurs in Battlemode 0999 or warfare. Usually this only occurs as a result of irresponsible (or malicious) use of a superweapon, with few other possible scenarios. However, it can happen. Organoids can ressurect dead Zoids, but there are few people with Organoids. If you suffered Zoid Death, contact an admin as soon as possible and work out what will happen next. As a general rule, Zoid Death is not a damage that judges dole out, and usually it only happens in extreme or exceptional circumstances.

Repairs: As mentioned in the section above, there are 4 grades of repair available to Zoids: Light, Moderate, Heavy, and Rebuild, listed in ascending order. The higher your damage is, the more costly and time-consuming it is to repair. Self-repairs alloy you to do it for free, but over an even longer period of time. Note that only in warfare is it possible that standard repair might be unavailable. Whenever repairing a Zoid coming out of a sanctioned battle, full repair is always an option.
