In Brief: The Pulse Amplifier enhance the power of all ranged energy weapons (Laser and Beam, but not Thermic in this particular case) on the equipped Zoid, moderating increasing the penetration and surface damage dealt by the beams they fire.

Description: Some of the more educated pilots might know that the Lasers are already a kind of "amplified light", LASER standing for Light Amplification through Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Beam weaponry is essentially the same thing, working on only slightly different principles. Often for power consumption and natural scattering reasons, laser and beam weaponry are "pulsed", firing small bursts which deal damage roughly equivalent to solid shells of a given size. This is why energy weaponry is measured in caliber and not watts. Aside from a few minor differences, such as the tendency of energy weaponry to penetrate better and deal less surface damage, there is almost no difference. Other more fortunate Zoids may have continuous lasers, but this tends to be a rarity.

For a number of other reasons, such as the fact that energy weaponry does not need any ammunition, lasers and beams have become quite common in Zoids. Therefore, after the success of the Sabre Rounds, the EP corporation saw a massive potential for profit in producing a part that would enhance the firepower of Zoids that relied on said energy weaponry. The result of yet more blood, sweat, and tears (not to mention labor) was the Pulse Amplifier. Operating on principles that are nothing but meaningless technobabble to non-experts, the Pulse Amplifier enhances normal guns to be almost as effective as AZ weaponry in terms of penetration, causes extra surface damage as well. However, it really shines where the weapon is already AZ, though, greatly increasing the capabilities of the weapons.

This modification doesn't work with Thermic Weaponry, because the underlying principles of the weapons are different and the Pulse Amplifier has no effect. This is also true with melee energy weapons, such as the Strike Laser Claw: the part does nothing to enhance them. However, continuous lasers are helped along by the Pulse Amplifier, making the "pulse" part of the name a misnomer.
