Name: Hell's Backpack
Cost: $10,000 Weight: 6 tons (includes extra weapon's weight) Function: Additional Ground Support Mounts On: Marder Mounting Locations: --On the Zoid, replaces back-mounted weapon with a double back-mount. In Brief: Allows Marder to use both the 60mm Beam Cannon and 15-shot Light AZ Rocket Box at the same time, also decreasing the Marder's speed by 100 kph. Description:What do you know about the Marder? Well, I'll fill you in case you've forgotten -- the Marder is a small and extremely light Zoid, Ornithomimus-typed (somewhat like an ostrich) and FAST. And I mean FAST. The Marder was nicknamed the Hellrunner because it can move at 450 kph, a whopping third of the speed of sound, making the Marder the fastest terrestrial Zoid this side of the Liger Zero Jager. Speed is a massive advantage for the humble Marder, and what gives it its limited appeal and fanbase in the world of sanctioned Zoid battling. So, what's the problem? Why does this ostrich-like creature need a mod? So here we are, looking at the Marder, and we notice that its somewhat poorly armed. It has claws, you see, and one, single, solitary back-mounted weapon. This weapon can either take the form of a 15-shot Light AZ Rocket (LAZR) Box, so the Marder can run up and unleash 15 little surprises on an opponent, or it can be a 60mm Beam Cannon. The Marder only has hardened alloy claws for melee weapons. So, now that begs the question: What can be done to make the Marder more efficient in battle? After all, it's not often that people have to do scouting or reconnaissance in the sanctioned Zoid Battling circuit anyway. Thusly, the idea of making it so the Marder could wield both of its weapons at the same time came to mind - and then to being. The Hell's Backpack replaces the back mount on the Marder with a double back mount, allowing for both of its weapons to be equipped at once instead of just one. Naturally, this causes a speed decrease - of about 100 km/h. Sadly, this is relatively severe, knocking the Marder down to merely 350 kph in speed. Why? Well simply put, the Marder weighs 17 tons. Adding another 6 tons of weight to it (about a 30% increase) severely damages its speed. Fortunately for the Marder, most of its maneuverability remains intact, and it remains one of the fastest terrestrial Zoids around... also with a little more firepower. So, is this tradeoff worth it? Your choice... fork over $10,000, and you, the Marder pilot, get to make that decision before each and every battle. |
