Mount Location:
--On the Bigasaur, Cannon Tortoise, Cannon Fort, Command Wolf, Mammoth, Black Rhimos, Shield Liger, Zaber Fang, and Red Horn, the Assault Unit mounts to the back of the Zoid, above and behind existing back-mounted weaponry. It cannot be mounted with the Gatling Mortar.
--On the Dark Thrasher, the Assault Unit mounts to the machinegun mount. This modification cannot be used with the Attack Unit, Flak Cannon, or Large-Bore Beam Cannon.
--On the Deadborder and Godkaiser, the Assault Unit mounts to the chest of the Zoid. It cannot be mounted with the Gatling Mortar.
--On the Bear Fighter, the Assault Unit may mount to either the back or the chest. Which is stated by the pilot at the beginning of the match (back is default).
In Brief: The Assault Unit is a 60mm semiautomatic cannon with a grenade launcher mounted below it.

Description: The Assault Unit, originally designed by the Guylos Military back in the glory days of part development, is a fairly simple apparatus that has become a staple part of any large terrestrial Zoid's loadout. The Unit consists of a semiautomatic 60mm Cannon and a grenade launcher mounted just below that, both designed to give that extra kick necessary to get the job done. Even smaller and lighter Zoids, such as the Command Wolf, often find the Assault Unit to be a great boon because of its immense capacity to deal damage -- hence the name.

The larger and faster-firing portion of the Assault Unit is the 60mm Smoothbore Cannon, which is semiautomatic. It works just like any other cannon except that it fires Smoothbore shells, which trade energy and power for accuracy. Though not exactly sniping weapons, the smoothbore shells are immensely good at shattering armor and inflicting surface damage, almost as good as a Heavy weapon. Just don't expect to hit the same place twice very often. The other component of the Assault Unit is the Grenade Launcher, a device mounted just under the barrel of the 60mm Cannon that can shoot off 1 High-Explosive Grenade every 3 seconds. Don't underestimate either component.

With that said, the last part of the Assault Unit that you should note is the turret mount. The Assault Unit is capable of turning 360 degrees on the horizontal axis and 90 degrees on the vertical when mounted on the back (those two figures are inverted when on the chest -- 90 degrees outwards and 360 degrees vertically). However, the Grenade Launcher and 60mm Cannon are fixed together, which renders the 60mm Cannon useless while firing grenades in a parabolic arc, or leaves the Grenade Launcher strictly short-range while the 60mm Cannon fires on a direct path.
